Celtic midfielder Scott Brown is being targeted by an Australian club, according to a report.
According to The Daily Mail, Western Melbourne have designs on luring Celtic captain Scott Brown to Australia next year.
The A-League, Australia’s top flight, is expanding its division from 10 teams to 12 later this month and Western Melbourne are hoping to be included from next year.
If they are successful, the Aussies, according to The Mail, will try and sign the Celtic midfielder, whose contract expires in 2019.
The report adds that the transfer would only materialise in 12 months time, if the aspiring top-flight club can break into the big time.
Is it possible?
In a word, yes, but is it likely? Probably not. Despite being 33, Brown remains a huge player for Celtic, evident by the fact that he won a number of end-of-season individual awards last term.
In all, Brown has won eight Premiership titles, five League Cups and four Scottish Cups during his 11-year spell at Parkhead and with the Hoops only three leagues away from an unprecedented 10-in-a-row, Celtic fans would hate to lose him.
Not only that, but the man himself said recently that he has been speaking to manager Brendan Rodgers and Peter Lawwell over a contract extension, adding that talks had ‘gone well’, so he clearly has no designs on leaving just yet.
