West Ham’s first move for Micah Richards has reportedly fallen short of the mark.

According to the Daily Mail (14:33), West Ham United’s first move to sign Aston Villa defender Micah Richards has been rejected, with Villa waiting to see if the Hammers return with a new bid.
West Ham appear to be in the market for a new right back, given that Michail Antonio has struggled there yet proven himself further up the pitch, whilst Sam Byram is inexperienced in the Premier League.

A more veteran presence is wanted at the London Stadium, and manager Slaven Bilic appears to have a couple of options at his disposal.
The Daily Mail report that the Hammers are keen to take Micah Richards on loan from Aston Villa for the season, but the Championship club have rejected that approach ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline.

Richards, 28, joined Villa on a free transfer last summer, returning to his hometown of Birmingham in the process – but he endured a difficult season at Villa Park.
Villa suffered relegation to the Championship and Richards had an up-and-down campaign, with fans criticising his performances as the club lost their Premier League status.

To start the season, Richards has only appeared once under new Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo, and that came in a 3-1 EFL Cup defeat to League Two outfit Luton Town, as it’s become increasingly clear that he has no future at Villa Park.
Now, the former England international is being targeted by West Ham to bring some experience to the right back position, but Villa have snubbed their first bid – and as they look to move Richards on, they are believed to be waiting to see if West Ham return with an improved offer.
