Report: West Ham’s David Moyes faces MLS competition for free transfer signing of Burnley’s Scott Arfield

The West Ham United manager is said to have also wanted the Burnley midfielder at Sunderland.

West Ham United manager David Moyes faces competition from two Major League Soccer sides for the signing of long-term target Scott Arfield, the Burnley midfielder – according to the Sun.

The report claims Moyes was one of several Premier League bosses who tracked Arfield during the January transfer window, having previously wanted to take him to Sunderland.

But Canadian pair Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps are now said to be keen on the Burnley regular, who has entered the final six months of his Turf Moor contract.

Though born in Scotland, Arfield chose to represent Canada internationally, and a return to the North American nation could appeal to the 29-year-old.

According to the Sun, both the Impact and Whitecaps ​have shown a strong interest in making him a ‘designated player’ – one who is paid above the MLS salary cap – for the 2018 campaign.
