Over the summer, there was plenty of talk about West Ham and KRC Genk striker Paul Onuachu, who some even said was recommended to Liverpool.
The 27-year-old incredibly scored 35 goals in all competitions last season, prompting the Belgian side to slap a £22m asking price on his head.
According to Voetbal Belgie, that was a sum West Ham were not willing to pay, and Onuachu eventually remained in the Jupiler Pro League.
This season, the Nigerian has picked up where he left off with six goals in his first ten outings this term.
As a result, KRC Genk have tied him down to a new three-year contract.
Have West Ham now missed out on Paul Onuachu?
If West Ham were slowly changing their minds about the KRC Genk No.18, this contract news has thrown a spanner in the works.
The Hammers could be kicking themselves that they didn’t pounce on a deal when Onuachu was valued at £22m.
Now, after a strong goalscoring start to the season – and a new contract under his belt – the striker’s value has surely increased.

Of course, Onuachu is still obtainable for the east Londoners.
However, it’s become far more difficult to sign him, while the competition for his signature could increase with another goal-laden campaign.
After all, Arsenal were also interested in him (The Athletic) over the summer, so the Hammers already have Liverpool and the Gunners to fend off.
January move?
Moyes only has one senior striker in his ranks right now in Michail Antonio.
If the Jamaica international picks up an injury, then there will be panic sirens at the London Stadium.

In that case, a January swoop for Onuachu could be possible, in our view.
Additionally, if West Ham are still doing well in the Europa League at that point, then the forward’s arrival would give them a real momentum boost.
