Hammers boss David Moyes was working frantically on transfer deadline day to bolster his ranks, but he eventually missed out on some of his key targets, including Anderlecht midfield ace Leander Dendoncker, but the Evening Standard claim that the east London outfit will go back in for the Belgian in the summer.

Belgian media outlet HLN claimed that West Ham were locked in talks to sign the 22-year-old on deadline day, but fell well short of Anderlecht’s £20 million valuation of the player.

The Hammers squad is currently depleted by injuries, and central midfield is a particular area of concern, although they did manage to add Joao Mario to their ranks during last month’s window.

The Evening Standard claim that West Ham will go back in for Dendoncker in the summer, regardless of who is actually in charge of the club at the time.

David Moyes has done a fine job since taking the reigns at the London Stadium in November, but his side are still a long way from being assured of their Premier League safety, with just four points separating them from the drop zone.

And if they are to having any chance of signing players like Dendoncker in the summer, they absolutely must remain in the Premier League, and with the club’s owners’ approach to doing business, even that might not be enough.
