The Chelsea ace is a reported transfer target for West Ham United.
According to a report from the Telegraph, West Ham are considering a surprise swoop for Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater in the summer, with the former Leicester man growing increasingly more frustrated with his lack of game-time at Stamford Bridge.
The 28-year-old joined the Blues from the Foxes in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £35 million, but he has really struggled to establish himself as a first team regular under Antonio Conte.
The three-capped England international has made just five Premier League starts for the west London outfit this season, and at the age of 28, he will surely be keen to leave the club this summer, if he is offered more regular action elsewhere.
The Telegraph claim that the London Stadium could very well be Drinkwater’s next destination, with the Hammers being alerted to his potential availability this summer.
Despite his recent struggles, the Chelsea man would be an excellent signing for the Hammers, what with his ability to break up play and dictate the tempo of the game from a deep-lying midfield position.
It could be argued that Drinkwater would be an upgrade on Mark Noble, and his presence in the middle of the park would undoubtedly offer David Moyes’ side greater solidarity.
The 28-year-old is still under contract with the Blues until the summer of 2022, and it is unclear as to how much West Ham would have to pay to prise him away from Stamford Bridge.
He would be a smart signing for the Hammers nonetheless.
