West Ham United are interested in the 29-year-old, according to reports from Germany.
The Express in Germany have reported that West Ham United are gearing up to make a bid FC Koln hitman Anthony Modeste, who is valued at £26 million by the Bundesliga outfit.
The Mirror reported in April that West Ham, long-term admirers of the French marksman, would make a renewed bid for the 29-year-old.
And The Express in Germany now claims that the Irons will need to stump up a minimum of £26 million to sign him.
This means that the Hammers would have to break their existing club-record transfer fee – held by Andre Ayew, who joined for £20.5 million last summer – for a second successive season in order to bring him to The London Stadium.
The report goes on to suggest that Marseille are also in the reckoning for his signature.
It is quite a lot of money for a 29-year-old who, by the time his contract ends, will have practically no resale value whatsoever.
And then there is the question as to whether or not he would be effective in the Premier League. The Irons have been unlucky with strikers down the years and it remains to be seen whether they want to risk extending that bad luck by spending so much money on a forward untested in England.
