The Hammers are looking to add a touch of class to their backline, according to reports in Italy.
West Ham United are looking to add top European class to their backline with the signing of Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, according to Sky Italia.
Only five Premier League team have conceded more than the Hammers’ total of 35 from 20 league fixtures so far this season.
Too often, Slaven Bilic’s side have looked at best porous and at worst inept at the back as they struggle in the bottom half of the table.

Whilst the headlines have all surrounded the club’s search for a top-class striker, they are thought to be pursuing defensive options as well.
According to Sky Italia, one of their leading targets is Inter stalwart Ranocchia, whom they are hoping to tempt into a move to the London Stadium
The 28-year-old has played 158 games for the Italian giants since moving to the San Siro in 2011 but has featured just five times in Serie A this term.
Ranocchia won 21 caps for Italy in an international career spanning six years and would bring both international and Champions League experience.

There are conflicting suggestions as to whether he would be keen on a move, however, Sky Italia claims that the Irons could be the centre-back’s preferred choice despite interest from Hull City and Italian sides Sassuolo and Bologna.
However, Football Italia report that the defender is not keen on leaving his home country.
It seems uncertain whether any solid offer will be made, but the reported interest may be one to watch over the next three weeks or so.
