West Ham are looking for an experienced goalscorer, which has triggered talks over a deal to send Ashley Fletcher to Leeds United.
According to The Mirror, West Ham United want more experience in their attack – hence talks with Leeds United over a possible exit for striker Ashley Fletcher.
The Hammers brought in a number of strikers over the summer in search of more goals, but their moves have so far proved to be disastrous.
West Ham United’s Ashley Fletcher has a shot at goal
Italian international Simone Zaza was brought in on loan from Juventus but has yet to score, whilst the same can be said for Argentinian striker Jonathan Calleri, who remains goalless since his summer loan move from Deportivo Maldonado.
However, Ashley Fletcher – signed from Manchester United – has flashed real ability despite being brought in as one for the future, but the 21-year-old has only started three games in all competitions.
West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic
Now, according to The Mirror, West Ham are in talks over a deal which would see Fletcher sign for Leeds United – most likely on loan – because they want more experience in their attack.
Leeds are pushing for promotion back to the Premier League, and whilst Chris Wood has scored 14 goals this season, manager Garry Monk needs more goals to try and get Leeds over the line.
Fletcher fits the bill in a loan deal until the end of the season, whilst freeing up some space in the squad for West Ham to bring in a more proven goalscorer, especially with Calleri and Zaza likely to return to their parent clubs.
Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge and Atletico Mineiro’s Lucas Pratto are believed to be targets for West Ham, and both have international records on their CV’s, something the Hammers may be looking for.
It seems unlikely that Bilic would let Fletcher leave without bringing in a replacement, and with the athletic striker needing first-team experience whilst West Ham want immediate goals, a loan move to Elland Road could make sense in January – if the Hammers can land the proven striker they’re seeking.
