West Ham United are keen to raid London rivals Queens Park Rangers for £6 million-rated goalkeeper Seny Dieng, as reported by The Sun (11 April, page 67).
Lukasz Fabianski may have dispelled doubts about his immediate future with a new contract but, with just a few days to go until his 36th birthday, it’s high time the Hammers started to prepare for life without their ageing, admittedly evergreen Pole.
And Dieng, a decade Fabianski’s junior, would certainly represent a long-term investment.
After a series of loan spells, the 26-year-old Senegal international has finally established himself as QPR’s number one – with brilliant results.
“Seny is a very confident guy – not arrogant but confident. You can see in his distribution, his shot-stopping he’s an outstanding goalkeeper. He is still young and his best years are ahead of him,” Rangers boss Mark Warburton told West London Sport, before admitting QPR have a “succession” plan in place should Dieng depart.
“There’s no doubt Seny has all the attributes to go to the very highest level. He has so many qualities.
“We have Dillon Barnes also out on loan at the moment and he’s a talented goalkeeper. We also signed young Joe Walsh, who is only 18, from Gillingham.
“You have to have a succession line going through.”
The message, then, was clear.
QPR would love to keep Dieng at Loftus Road but, if a Premier League club does come calling with a bid in the region of £6 million, Rangers have a number of potential replacements lined up already.
