West Ham United are hoping that David Moyes will stay beyond the end of his current contract with the Premier League side.
When David Moyes was appointed by West Ham until the end of the season earlier in the campaign, many Irons fans would have been forgiven for thinking that the board’s decision would prove to be a major mistake with the Scotsman’s previous job seeing him relegated with Sunderland. However, the Daily Mirror is now reporting that the Hammers hierarchy want to discuss extending the 54-year-old’s deal.
It has not gone perfectly for Moyes. In the build-up to the Hammers’ clash with Southampton at the weekend, there was an incredible amount of gloom surrounding the London Stadium after the incredible events of the previous fixture at the ground.
However, one emphatic win later and life is looking a lot brighter for West Ham and Moyes. The Irons are now five points clear of the bottom three and have played a game less than several of the teams below them in the table.
Right move from West Ham?
West Ham are not safe just yet, but after they beat Southampton so convincingly, it would appear to be a major surprise if they did fall back into serious trouble. And given the circumstances that Moyes has had to deal with during his tenure, he deserves a lot of praise for putting them in their current position.
Keeping Moyes on may not show the kind of ambition that the Irons seem desperate to show at times, but it would clearly be a popular move amongst the majority of the squad. And perhaps the signs are there that he may be able to replicate what he achieved at Everton earlier in his career with West Ham.
After such an underwhelming season, mirroring the Toffees’ journey during Moyes’ time in charge has to be an appealing idea for the long-suffering West Ham fans.
