According to Tuttomercatoweb, West Ham United are back in the market for Stuttgart loan star Steven Zuber – but face a battle with Nice, Lazio and Roma.

Zuber, 27, was a bit-part player at Hoffenheim, and he decided to leave the club in January to sign for Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart on loan.

The Swiss international has hit an unexpected run of form since his move, hitting five goals and one assist in 13 games, but it hasn’t been enough to keep Stuttgart out of the relegation play-off.

Zuber is now unlikely to make his move permanent, and with just a year left on his deal at Hoffenheim, he’s now being eyed up elsewhere this summer.

Tuttomercatoweb report that West Ham are now keen to sign Zuber for a fee of just €7million (£6million), but face competition from Nice, Lazio and Roma.

Zuber was linked with West Ham in 2017, as Estadio Deportivo reported that Slaven Bilic wanted Zuber at the London Stadium – though no move materialised.

Zuber, capable of playing at left wing back, left midfield or central midfield, is a versatile performer available for a decent price, and he even scored against Brazil at the World Cup last summer.

It’s unclear where he would play for Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham, but that versatility makes him a great squad player for any side – and even more so after his Stuttgart form.
