West Ham United are chasing a late deal for Dundee United defender Kerr Smith – and want him to come to London for talks over a move.

That’s according to The Sun, who claim that there is now a three-way battle for Smith’s signature ahead of the transfer deadline.

Crystal Palace and West Ham – who faced each other in the Premier League on Saturday – both want Kerr to travel down to London for talks over a deal.

However, Southampton are also in the race for the teenager, who is being touted for a huge future at Tannadice.

Several Premier League clubs are understood to have made moves for Smith, but it’s West Ham, Palace and Southampton seemingly making the biggest push.

Smith, 16, is a centre half by trade and has already made seven first-team appearances for Dundee United having shown quality at such a young age.

Premier League clubs now want to take Smith into their developmental ranks, seemingly recognising his huge potential.

David Moyes – a centre back in his playing days too – will have plenty of knowledge about young prospects emerging up in Scotland.

Playing under Moyes could be appealing to Smith, but with not long to go until the transfer window, West Ham have a race against time to get a deal done.
