West Ham United are reportedly amongst the group of clubs interested in the Cardiff City goalkeeper.
According to a report from Wales Online, West Ham are amongst a cluster of teams interested in signing Cardiff goalkeeper Neil Etheridge this summer following the Bluebirds’ relegation from the Premier League.
Etheridge is one of the Cardiff players that will definitely be able to hold his head high after a superb campaign in which he picked up the club’s Player of the Year award.
Wales Online reports that Neil Warnock will want to keep the 29-year-old ahead of their return to the Championship, but it appears that there may be offers to respond to, with clubs interested in signing the Philippines international, including West Ham.
It is not surprising that the Hammers have their eye on a new goalkeeper. Adrian is out of contract at the London Stadium, and Football London suggested that the Spaniard is likely to be on his way out of the club in the summer.
But Lukasz Fabianski has been outstanding during his first year with the Irons. His form will take a little pressure off Manuel Pellegrini as he can focus on targeting an understudy to the Pole instead of a first-choice stopper.
But whether Etheridge would have any interest in playing that role is surely doubtful, especially after such a superb year. And it seems just as unlikely that Pellegrini would be willing to drop Fabianski down to the bench to make way for Etheridge to take his place.
