West Ham United are reportedly targeting Maxi Gomez and Salomon Rondon, rather than one or the other.
According to The Mirror, West Ham United want to sign both Maxi Gomez and Salomon Rondon rather than one or the other.
It’s claimed that West Ham have offered £10million plus Sam Byram and Jordan Hugill for Rondon, but West Bromwich Albion are holding out for the full £16.5million release clause in his contract.
West Ham may well return for Rondon, and it’s stated that Manuel Pellegrini wants Celta Vigo ace Gomez too, rather than having to pick between the two.
The London Evening Standard note that that after failing with a £25million bid for Gomez, West Ham are now keen to sign both strikers they’ve so far failed to land this summer.
Rondon worked with Pellegrini at Malaga and racked up 11 goals and seven assists for Newcastle last season, whilst Gomez picked up 13 goals and five assists, meaning they may well bring real productivity to the West Ham attack.
However, signing both would leave Pellegrini running into a problem. Gomez and Rondon are both big, physical strikers, but nobody would really call them quick.
Marko Arnautovic isn’t that type of player either, even if he’s quicker than both Gomez and Rondon. If they’re the three strikers Pellegrini is going with, he may find that the West Ham attack desperately lacks pace.
Michail Antonio and Felipe Anderson would help on the flanks, but three big, powerful attackers could leave West Ham one-paced if they can’t find an attacker with pace and movement to replace Javier Hernandez.
Birmingham City striker Che Adams would fit the bill perfectly, but with budget restrictions, a youngster or a loan option may be ideal for Pellegrini, just to ensure that West Ham have a balanced set of strikers.
