West Ham United have joined Leicester City and Chelsea in the race to sign the rampaging Atalanta left-back Robin Gosens for £25 million, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The most creative full-back in European football is not Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Nor is it Andy Robertson, Alphonso Davies, Marcelo or even Barcelona’s diminutive dynamo Jordi Alba.

Then again, if you have had the pleasure of watching Gian Piero Gasperini’s free-wheeling Atalanta side blitz many a Serie A team over the last two years, then you won’t be surprised to learn that the continent’s most effective full-back is flying down the flanks in Bergamo.

In all competitions, Gosens has ten goals and eight assists to his name – a tally which puts him one ahead of Liverpool’s number 66.

No wonder the 25-year-old German is quickly becoming a man in demand.

Leicester and Chelsea have been linked already but, according to Tuttomercatoweb, the former Vitesse Arnhem and Heracles ace also has admirers at the London Stadium.

Many a big-money signing has flopped in claret and blue in recent years but the £25 million-rated Gosens, after establishing himself as a full-back of genuine world class potential, would surely represent a massive upgrade on the erratic Arthur Masuaku and the limited Aaron Cresswell.

Given that he has thrived in Atalanta’s mesmerising 3-5-2 formation, David Moyes may have to adapt his tactics at West Ham to get the best out of a man who was denied a first-ever Germany cap by the global health crisis in March.

The Hammers have largely played with a four-man back line since Moyes returned in December.
