According to the Daily Mail, West Ham United are keen on Aston Villa’s John McGinn.

McGinn caught the eye as Villa earned promotion to the Premier League last term, and West Ham have begun to keep tabs on him.

The Hammers reportedly feel that McGinn could be a good addition to Manuel Pellegrini’s squad.

The Scot earned huge praise last term, and was labelled as the ‘best midfielder in the Championship’ by Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder on Sky Sports.

Villa are determined to keep hold of McGinn amid West Ham’s interest though, and are already putting up a fight.

Villa intend to hand McGinn a new contract in the near future and are confident that he will sign the new deal to quickly put an end to the rumours that he could move to the London Stadium.

If Villa were to lose McGinn immediately after earning promotion it would be a major blow, but they do have the financial strength to fend off more established Premier League clubs now.

McGinn’s energy would make him an appealing addition to West Ham’s team, but it seems likely that they will have to look elsewhere at other targets.
