West Ham United may be searching for a new top-class striker this summer, but it appears they are on the verge of allowing Diafra Sakho to leave to join West Bromwich Albion, as reported by the Express & Star.
Sakho managed just five Premier League goals in 20 appearances last season for the Hammers as he struggled for form and fitness, and the 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the club for much of the summer.
Though Sunderland were touted as a potential destination, West Brom emerged as the leading candidate for the signature of the Senegal striker, but it appeared as though a deal could be stalling in recent days despite the two clubs agreeing a fee.
However, the Express & Star report that after the clubs agreed what will be a Baggies club-record £16 million, Sakho has now agreed personal terms and will undergo a medical at the Birmingham club’s training ground on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The striker handed in a transfer request at the Olympic Stadium earlier this summer, and it now appears he is set to get his move away from the Hammers.
Sakho scored 19 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions for West Ham, and though that is no groundbreaking ratio, if he can stay fit he will surely provide ample competition and support for previous record signing Salomon Rondon.
According to the report, his arrival at the Hawthorns will pave the way for Saido Berahino to finally leave the West Midlands, probably for either Stoke City or Crystal Palace.
Salho would become West Brom’s second signing of the summer, after the deal for QPR winger Matt Phillips.
