West Ham United are still interested in signing Burnley defender James Tarkowski, according to The Daily Star.

It has been reported that the Hammers wanted to secure the services of the 27-year-old central defender in the summer transfer window.

The report has added that West Ham remain keen on signing the England international, who is rated at £40 million by Burnley.

However, according to the report, if the proposed takeover by Egyptian businessman Mohamed El Kashany and lawyer Chris Farnell goes through, then the Clarets will no longer have to sell Tarkowski.

Would James Tarkowski be a good signing for West Ham United?

Tarkowski has been on the books of Burnley since 2016 and has established himself as an important player in Sean Dyche’s team.

According to WhoScored, the 27-year-old played 38 Premier League matches last season, while in 2018-19 he played 35 times in the league and made 31 appearances in the English top flight in 2017-18.

The England international is at the top of his game and would make David Moyes’s West Ham side better at the back.

The Hammers have conceded 10 goals in seven Premier League matches so far this season, which suggests that there is room for improvement defensively.
