West Ham United were tracking Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter over the January transfer window.
Arter was a target for West Ham during the January transfer window, but Bournemouth were not willing to let the 28-year-old leave.
Eddie Howe felt that Arter had a lot to offer at Dean Court, and rejected West Ham’s advances.
However, Arter has only played a rotational role this season, with Dan Gosling and Lewis Cook working brilliantly in tandem together in recent weeks.
And Arter has now hinted that he could leave Bournemouth, which has reportedly caught West Ham’s attention.
“When a player my age is not playing and someone who is desperate and just loves playing football, there comes a question over whether long term it is going to the right place for me,” Arter said.
“Ultimately if I am not playing, there has to be a change — and I am sure the manager would understand that.
“If I don’t play between now and the end of the season and am a continued spectator then, naturally, there would a be a discussion.”
Whether Arter will remain a target for West Ham in the summer remains to be seen, but David Moyes is thought to be a big admirer.
West Ham were known to have been chasing a central midfielder last month, but they failed to get a deal over the line for any of their targets.
The Hammers will be hoping that their failure to bring in more additions in midfield does not prove costly, as Moyes’ side are having to look over their shoulders after defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.
