West Ham United offered Declan Rice a weekly salary of £40,000 last week, according to The Times.

The Hammers have reportedly been in talks with Rice over a new contract, with the youngster’s current deal running out in the summer of 2019, according to Transfermarkt.com.

It has been reported that the Hammers offered the 19-year-old, who can operate as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder, a new deal worth up to £40,000 per week.

West Ham’s reported decision to offer Rice a massive pay-hike makes sense, given his performances for manager Manuel Pellegrini’s side and interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton.

According to The Gambling Times, Everton and Wolves are tracking the 19-year-old, with Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal also claimed to be interested in him.

The Sun recently reported that Rice is on £3000-a-week salary at West Ham at the moment.

A weekly salary of £40,000 for a 19-year-old is big, but Rice’s quality and potential does justify it.
