West Ham United have been linked with the Mexican, but must they explore other avenues if the latest report is accurate?
Goal.com has reported that West Ham United target Javier Hernandez has his sights set on joining an “elite European club” this summer.
The Mirror reported at the weekend that West Ham boss Slaven Bilic was willing to pay the £13 million needed to prise the 29-year-old from Bayer Leverkusen.
Speculation about his potential arrival went down very well with Irons fans on Twitter, many of whom were delighted at the prospect of signing the ex-Manchester United man.
That being said, fans of the East London club might wind up disappointed, and not for the first time in what has been a frustrating transfer window.
According to Goal.com, Hernandez, who scored 26 goals in his first season in the Bundesliga and 13 last term, is keen to join an “elite European club” in a development which would rule out the Hammers, who finished 11th in the Premier League last time around.
The report goes to state that the Londoners are in a “form of limbo” over the Mexico international now and, if true, Bilic should perhaps explore another of his 20 reported striking targets.
Thirteen goals isn’t a superb return in the goalscoring stakes last season, but Hernandez would have enough clout to secure a switch to a Champions League club if he wanted.
