West Ham United are competing with Southampton and West Bromwich Albion for the signature of Celtic central defender Kristoffer Ajer, according to the Express.

It has been reported that Ajer wants to leave Celtic this summer, with manager Neil Lennon also prepared to let the central defender leave.

Southampton are reportedly chasing the 22-year-old, with West Ham and West Brom also keen on the youngster, who can operate as a defensive midfielder as well.

The report has added that Ajer would cost the Saints, the Hammers or the Baggies £20 million in transfer fee.

Good signing for West Ham United?

Ajer is one of the best central defenders in the Scottish Premiership and has progressed well over the years at Celtic.

The 22-year-old is comfortable on the ball, makes timely tackles and challenges, and, given his age, he can only improve and get better in the coming years.

West Ham do have some good centre-backs on their books such as Issa Diop, but manager David Moyes could do with someone young and promising such as Ajer, especially as the London club conceded 62 goals in 38 Premier League matches last season.
