Is reported West Ham United target Simon Sluga a replacement for Joe Hart, who is going back to Manchester City?

Simon Sluga of HNK Rijeka directs his defense during the UEFA Europa League group D match between AC Milan and HNK Rijeka at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on September 28, 2017 in Milan, Italy.

West Ham United are interested in signing Simon Sluga from Rijeka in the summer transfer window, according to The Mirror (Transfer Live blog, 9:50pm, May 19, 2018).

However, according to the report, although West Ham were close to the signing of the 25-year-old goalkeeper for a transfer fee of £2.5 million, the deal has been put on hold.

That’s due to the departure of David Moyes as the Hammers’ manager, according to the report, with the London club yet to appoint a replacement.

Joe Hart replacement?

Hart is going back to his parent club Manchester City following his season-long loan deal at West Ham.

Joe Hart of West Ham United looks dejected following the Premier League match between Arsenal and West Ham United at Emirates Stadium on April 22, 2018 in London, England.

The England international goalkeeper had a rather mixed season at the London Stadium, and while the 31-year-old made some good saves, the former Shrewsbury Town star made some costly errors.

Sluga is a good goalkeeper, and for £2.5m, the former Croatia Under-21 international could prove to be a bargain signing for West Ham, who narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship at the end of the season.
