West Ham have already brought in Mexico international Javier Hernandez in a £16 million deal but there is still major questions over Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho’s capacity to not only stay fit, but be the prolific talismen that Bilic needs.
The Irons suffered a demoralising 4-0 defeat at Manchester United in their Premier League opener on Sunday and it is obvious that the Croatian manager needs more firepower, with the visitors managing only one shot on target in 90 minutes.
But The Daily Mail has indeed reported that the former Besiktas coach, who claimed in midweek that he wanted “one or two more” players, is in the market for another forward.
If true, it’s a wise move by Bilic.
Even if Hernandez scores 20 times in the Premier League this season, something he never achieved at Man United, they still need other sources of goals based on the fact that Michail Antonio, a winger, was their top goalscorer last season with nine, while Manuel Lanzini finished second with eight.
Of course, West Ham have also broken their transfer record to sign Marko Arnautovic from Stoke City for £24 million, but the Austria international only managed six goals in 32 league outings fort he Potters last term.
Signing another hitman is of the utmost importance and fans of the East London club will be delighted if they bring in another big-name forward.
