The Burnley striker is being considered by West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic as an alternative to Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe.
West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic is willing to make a move for Burnley striker Andre Gray if he cannot sign Jermain Defoe from Sunderland, according to the Sun.
Bilic is reportedly ready to up his bid for Defoe from £5 million to £7 million, believing the 34-year-old wants a return to the club with whom he made his name.
Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe is seemingly the Hammers’ top target
However, Sunderland’s reluctance to lose their 11-goal top scorer is said to have prompted Bilic to consider alternative names in his pursuit of the prolific goalscorer that has eluded him since his return to West Ham as manager.
The Sun reports that Gray – along with Celtic’s Moussa Dembele who was initially linked with a move to the London Stadium by the Sunday People last month – is currently under consideration, and adds that Bilic is ‘willing to make a £10m swoop’ for the 25-year-old.
Andre Gray has scored five goals in 14 league games for Burnley this season
Gray has scored four goals in his last three outings for Burnley, and five in total in what is his first season at Premier League level.
Prior to that, Gray scored 41 goals in 88 Championship appearances for the Clarets and Brentford, whom he joined from Luton Town in 2014.
Dembele is said to be valued at £20 million by Celtic.
