Manuel Pellegrini could be left disappointed in his quest to sign Phil Foden for West Ham United.

The Daily Mirror have reported how West Ham were going to attempt to sign Foden on loan from Manchester City.

However, Pep Guardiola is said to want to keep the attacking midfielder around next season by the Daily Star.

Foden has found his first-team chances limited at City this term, despite being regarded as one of England’s best talents.

The 18-year-old has been handed a handful of substitute appearances in the Premier League, but with David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne ahead of him in the selection order, it is tough for him to break through.

West Ham were reportedly willing to offer City the chance to get Foden regular game-time next term.

Pellegrini felt he could use his former contacts to attract the prospect to the London Stadium.

However, City are said to want to keep Foden around, which could leave West Ham having to look elsewhere to increase the creativity in their squad next season.
