West Ham United have turned their attention to the Watford defender Craig Dawson, according to The Sun.

West Ham are said to have failed in their attempts to sign James Tarkowski, Jonathan Tah and Fikayo Tomori in the window for Premier League and international transfers.

But the Hammers can still recruit from EFL clubs until 16 October and it is claimed they have made Dawson their main priority as they seek to strengthen their back line.

Watford are said to want £4 million for Dawson, which The Sun adds would reimburse the amount they paid West Bromwich Albion 15 months ago.

That is said to be £14m less than Swansea City are asking for another West Ham target, Joe Rodon.

And it is suggested that figure, plus the interest of Tottenham Hotspur, may have put the Welshman out of the Hammers’ reach.

Dawson has played 182 times at Premier League level – the same amount more than Rodon – throughout spells at West Brom and Watford.
