West Ham United are reportedly set to launch a second bid for Newcastle United’s Jamaal Lascelles.
According to The Mirror, West Ham United aren’t giving up on their pursuit of Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles, and are ready to make a second bid for him.
The Hammers have already added Lukasz Fabianski, Ryan Fredericks, Issa Diop and Jack Wilshere this summer, but have now turned their attention to adding another defender to presumably partner Diop.
On Tuesday, reports suggested that West Ham had failed with an opening bid for Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles, with the Magpies rejecting their £25million offer.
Now, The Mirror report that West Ham’s reaction isn’t to back away from Lascelles, but to instead prepare a second bid to try and tempt Newcastle into a deal.
Newcastle insist Lascelles isn’t for sale this summer, but West Ham are set to launch another bid – and it’s also claimed that Everton are involved in the battle as the Magpies face a battle keeping hold of their captain.
Lascelles, 24, has become a star with the Magpies since agreeing to sign from Nottingham Forest in 2014, though he only started his career with the club a year later.
Lascelles now has more than 100 appearances for Newcastle, and having become the clear leader in Rafael Benitez’s side, he looks primed for a call-up to the England squad after the World Cup.
Newcastle would no doubt charge a huge fee for the defender, in the region of £35million to £40million, and whether West Ham or Everton would be willing to get to that kind of level remains to be seen – and whether Lascelles would want to leave St. James’ Park isn’t a given either, having become a fan favourite on Tyneside.
