West Ham United are reportedly turning their attention towards Burnley striker Andre Gray.
According to The Mirror, West Ham are set to make a £15million move for Burnley striker Andre Gray – but the Clarets are prepared to stand firm and reject the bid.
The Hammers produced a superb second half showing to beat Crystal Palace 3-0 at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon, giving manager Slaven Bilic a major boost after a turbulent week in East London.
Burnley’s Andre Gray
After a 5-0 home defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup and playmaker Dimitri Payet asked to leave the club, Bilic needed a win – and whilst he got that, his pursuit of a new striker continues, even with Andy Carroll producing a stunning bicycle kick goal against Palace.
The Mirror now report that, with West Ham being frustrated in their attempts to sign Brentford striker Scott Hogan and Sunderland hitman Jermain Defoe, they’ve now turned their attentions to Burnley’s Andre Gray.
Burnley’s Andre Gray celebrates scoring
Gray, 25, scored 23 times last season as he fired Burnley to promotion, and he’s grabbed five goals in 15 Premier League games this term, with four in his last five as he has started to settle in the top flight.
Now, his performances appear to have attracted West Ham’s interest, as it’s claimed that the Hammers will offer £15million for Gray – but Burnley are prepared to reject the bid and leave West Ham scrambling once again.
Given that Burnley paid £9million to sign Gray from Brentford in 2015 (BBC Sport), it’s unlikely that they would even entertain offers shy of double the price the paid, if they’d even sell at all this month.
The Clarets look a strong bet for survival having beaten Southampton 1-0 on Saturday, with Sean Dyche’s side now sitting ten points clear of the relegation zone, but they won’t want to make any moves to disrupt their momentum, and selling Gray would risk doing just that – meaning West Ham may again have to look elsewhere for the striker they crave.
