West Ham are reportedly set to miss out on the signing of Polish international Jakub Kiwior, with the 22-year-old eager to remain with Serie A minnows Spezia for the new season.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the centre-back is keen to stay in Italy despite West Ham making a €12m (£10m) bid this week for the defender, with Kiwior set to make a shock transfer decision and remain with Spezia and reject the chance to sign for a club in the Premier League competing in Europe.
Kiwior is set to join a worryingly growing list of players who West Ham have missed out on this summer, with Juventus recently pipping David Moyes to Filip Kostic with Everton also beating the Irons to LOSC Lille wonderkid Amadou Onana, with the Spezia star the latest name.
Whilst Spezia have impressed in Serie A in recent years since their return to the top-flight, the Italian side are one of the smallest in the division and last season survived relegation back down to Serie B by six points, which is why it is such a shock that Kiwior has decided to stay in Italy than sign for West Ham.
Indeed, the 22-year-old is regarded as one of Poland’s most exciting young talents, and with West Ham looking for more centre-back cover before the end of the window, Kiwior could have been a perfect signing for Moyes and a great addition for the east London side for many years to come.
However, Kiwior has seemingly made his mind to stay in La Spezia this summer, and for West Ham, the defender rejecting a move is another embarrassing episode for the Hammers, who are struggling big time to sign any new players since their capture of Gianluca Scamacca earlier in the month.

West Ham have established themselves over the past two years as quite an attractive club for players on the continent with Moyes bringing European football back to east London, yet even this isn’t enough to lure Kiwior away from Spezia, and for the Irons, they have to sign an alternative.
With defensive options thin, the Hammers could do with a player in Kiwior’s mould, with a young and versatile centre-back perfect for what West Ham need to supplement their ageing and injury-prone backline, which this season has already seen signs of cracking.
