West Ham are reportedly ready to make an offer for Swansea defender Alfie Mawson that would see the Premier League’s bottom club secure the £25 million that they are looking for for the centre-back, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Mawson has certainly been one of the Swans’ best players since he arrived at the Liberty Stadium from Barnsley, and the Hammers are keen to try and bring him to the London Stadium during the January transfer window.

The Mail reports that the Irons have already seen a bid of £18 million turned down by the Welsh club, but they are now ready to meet their £25 million asking price with their second offer for the 23-year-old.

According to the Mail, the bid will see the Irons offer to pay £20 million up front, with a further £5 million coming in add-ons, so it may perhaps not be out of the question to suggest that Swansea may decide to turn down the latest bid if they are holding out for the full amount to be paid up front.

It would certainly not be a surprise if the Swans were reluctant to allow Mawson to leave and did all they could to try and convince him to stay, especially as West Ham appears to be his most likely destination at this moment.

The Irons are the team directly above the relegation zone, and their hopes of avoiding dropping below the drop zone line will surely be boosted if they manage to land Mawson during the next month, while Swansea’s hopes of keeping their heads above water would suffer a significant blow if their main defender moved to the capital.
