West Ham United feel that they are going to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea, the Daily Mirror suggest.

Tottenham and West Ham are both keen on signing Rudiger, with his Stamford Bridge future firmly up in the air.

But West Ham apparently feel that they are leading the race to sign him, as Chelsea will prefer their terms.

David Moyes’ side want to take Rudiger on loan, and West Ham believe that Chelsea would rather do a temporary deal, rather than sell the German international.

With Tottenham keen to land Rudiger, who was hailed as ‘quality’ by ex-Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo (BBC), on a longer term basis, there is a feeling at the London Stadium that they will get their target.

If West Ham or Tottenham are to sign him, the Mirror suggest that Rudiger needs to sign a new contract though.

Chelsea want to ensure that Rudiger commits to staying for another year, so they can maximise the value that they get for him this summer or the next.

Rudiger is said to be keen on a move away, but Chelsea always tend to get big value for the players they sell, and they have told the 27-year-old he won’t be allowed to leave, unless he pens a new deal.

Whether Rudiger will sign a contract extension now remains to be seen, but both West Ham and Tottenham are likely to be hoping that he does, as that could make negotiations easier.
