West Ham United have informed Sporting Lisbon that they will not be increasing their bid for William Carvalho despite being short of his asking price.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, West Ham have informed Sporting Lisbon that they will not be upping their latest offer for William Carvalho despite the fact that it falls short of the Portuguese side’s asking price.

The Mirror reports that the Hammers have put a bid on the table that is worth an initial £30 million with a further £5 million coming in add-ons.

However, Sporting have now informed them that William’s asking price is now £40 million, according to the Mirror, and the Irons have been left infuriated by the change.

The Mirror adds that West Ham have insisted that they will not pay any extra for the 25-year-old and that the offer which is currently on the table is their final one.

Given how West Ham have begun the new season coupled with the fact that they have already put such a substantial amount on the table, it may disappoint the supporters if they do not end up bringing the Portugal international to the London Stadium this summer.

The Mirror reports that William is their one remaining target, which certainly suggests that any other business that may be done subsequently if the club gives up on the holding midfielder will be panic buying, which will certainly be worrying given their start to the Premier League campaign.

The Euro 2016 winner has been linked with the Hammers for a long-time, and if Sporting are adamant that £40 million will be enough to complete a deal – if they decide to reject the bid on the table – missing out over the remaining £5 million would surely be disappointing given that West Ham are willing to offer seven times that amount already.
