West Ham United target Thomas Strakosha is likely to leave Lazio in the near future, with La Laziali reporting that talks over a new contract have reached an impasse.

After falling behind 38-year-old Pepe Reina in Simone Inzaghi’s pecking order, the Albania international has a difficult decision to make.

Strakosha’s current contract runs out in 2022 and, having made just two Serie A appearances since mid-November, talks over an extension have hit the buffers.

Citta Celeste backs up those claims, adding that the Greek-born 25-year-old is very unlikely to commit his future to Lazio as things stand.

Borussia Dortmund are interested while West Ham are scouring the market for a goalkeeper capable of succeeding the veteran Lukasz Fabianski, with Strakosha in their sights (Calciomercato).

Il Messaggero believe that talks have taken place regarding a deal that would see Fabian Balbuena move to the Stadio Olimpico, with Strakosha going in the other direction.

“Rome is my second home, I feel comfortable in the city, but I’m always open to new challenges,” the £34 million-rated ‘keeper told Sky in February.

35-year-old Fabianski has just a few weeks left on his West Ham deal.

But, with his reflexes as sharp as ever, it would be a major surprise if the veteran Pole was not offered fresh terms at the London Stadium.

Darren Randolph and David Martin, the other two senior shot-stoppers in West Ham’s squad, are 33 and 35 respectively. Even if Fabianski sticks around for another season or two, a more youthful option between the sticks would be well received.
