Report: West Ham striker Andy Carroll’s Chelsea move hopes potentially over thanks to injury

West Ham United may end up keeping Andy Carroll this month thanks to an injury.

According to a report from The Telegraph, the chances of Andy Carroll leaving West Ham for Chelsea appear to be virtually nil after the striker suffered an injury that is set to keep him out for a number of weeks at least.

The Telegraph reported that the Blues were keen on the striker as Antonio Conte looked to bolster his attacking options, and they had been eyeing up a potential loan move for the 29-year-old.

However, West Ham were looking for a £20 million permanent deal or for some kind of swap involving Michy Batshuayi heading to the London Stadium in some capacity, the Telegraph reports. But those plans appear to be out of the question now.

The Telegraph adds that Carroll is now set for four to six weeks on the sidelines due to an ankle injury that has prevented him from training in recent times, and it could ultimately prove to be four months before he is back playing if the problem requires surgery.

The Telegraph suggests that Carroll is devastated about the latest setback – though it is not clear whether the prospect of missing out on a move to Stamford Bridge is part of the reason for his disappointment or not.

David Moyes will undoubtedly feel that the injury is a blow. If he wanted Carroll to stay, then not having him for much of the second-half of the season will be disappointing. But had he been happy for the forward to leave, his frustration may centre around the fact that his transfer kitty looks set to now go without a boost.
