Dimitri Payet is reportedly ready to take a 30% wage hit in order to join Marseille.
According to Sky Sports, West Ham United star Dimitri Payet has rejected moves to English rivals – and is ready to take a 30% pay cut to join Marseille.
Payet, 29, has been West Ham’s star player ever since joining from Marseille in the summer of 2015, as he racked up nine goals and 12 assists in his first Premier League season.
West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet warms up
His displays were rewarded with a new bumper contract in February of last year, and West Ham even managed to keep hold of their star playmaker after he dazzled for France at Euro 2016.
However, with West Ham struggling this term, Payet has now asked to leave the club, and is even refusing to train with Slaven Bilic’s men as he looks to force a move away from the London Stadium.
West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet looks dejected
Now, Sky Sports report that Payet is so determined to re-sign for former club Marseille that he’s willing to take a 30% wage cut to re-join the Ligue 1 side, and he’s even snubbed offers from unnamed Premier League rivals in a bid to head back to Marseille.
It’s unclear just who would have made moves to sign Payet, but teams like Arsenal, Chelsea and even Manchester United make some sense, given that he’s one of the Premier League’s most talented players.
Whoever made the moves for Payet will be left disappointed though, and so are Chinese clubs, who have been met with the same resistance from the West Ham rebel, who only wants to join Marseille.
The French side have had £19million and £20million bids for Payet rejected so far, with West Ham allegedly unwilling to consider anything below £30million – meaning this sage may just rumble on for a while yet.
