West Ham are closing in on a deal to sign free agent Patrice Evra.
Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his website that West Ham United are set to complete the free agent signing of Patrice Evra as the Frenchman is due to undergo a medical in east London on Wednesday.
Evra, 36, has been looking for a new home after the left-back was sacked by Marseille following an altercation with a fan prior to the French club’s Europa League clash against Vitoria.
The experienced defender brings huge calibre and pedigree to the London Stadium after turning out for the likes of Manchester United, Juventus and Monaco during his illustrious career.
Sky Sports claim Everton are also said to be interested in a move to land the 81-time France international, but it appears that West Ham are set to win the race for Evra as he is to complete a medical with the Hammers.
It is believed that he has agreed personal terms with David Moyes side, becoming the former Man United manager’s third West Ham signing after he lured Joao Mario to West Ham on loan from Inter Milan as well as target man Jordan Hugill.
Better than Cresswell?
Evra will now rival Aaron Cresswell for a place on the left side of the defence, while Arthur Masuaku is seemingly expected to play further forward on the left wing when he returns from a spitting ban.
The England international has struggled to impress on the left side of defence this season, with his lack of form corresponding with the Hammers’ lack of consistency in terms of results.
The 28-year-old’s World Cup chances with England look all but over, and the signing of Evra proves that Moyes is desperate to replace the former Ipswich Town defender.
