According to Danish website Bold, West Ham United are set to sign Silkeborg defender Frederik Alves Ibsen.

Silkeborg confirmed on Saturday that they were negotiating the sale of Alves, with a deal set to go through in January.

They didn’t name the club they were selling the defender to, but this report states that it is West Ham who are set to snap him up.

Personal terms have been negotiated and completed over the weekend, though Brexit has allegedly made the deal a little more difficult than hoped.

The move is expected to go through soon, meaning the Hammers are signing a promising young centre back for the future having landed Craig Dawson on loan on Monday.

The fee involved is around DKK 10 million, which converts to around £1.2million. That’s not a huge price, with West Ham seemingly taking a calculated gamble on the 20-year-old.

A Danish Under-21 international, Alves can also play for Brazil through his mother, and did have a brief spell at Coritiba despite being born in Denmark.

Standing at 6ft 2in tall, Alves is big, strong and full of potential, whilst he already has 48 first-team appearances for Silkeborg; impressive for his age.

West Ham do have a young centre back in Goncalo Cardoso, but now seemingly want to try and develop Alves too, in the hope that he can be a long-term solution at the back without breaking the bank.
