West Ham are preparing to release Alvaro Arbeloa, report The Mail, who claim Swansea City are ready to offer him a deal.

Arbeloa has barely featured for the Hammers this season, making only four appearances, with just one starts coming in the Premier League.

His last appearance came back in December, with Slaven Bilic preferring alternatives to the former Spain international.

Arbeloa signed from Real Madrid on a free transfer, where he won the Champions League with the club twice.

The former Liverpool defender worked with Swansea boss Paul Clement while in Spain and the coach sees him as a potentially useful asset.

Arbeloa may be past his best at 34, but Swansea’s backline has suffered this season and could benefit from his experience.

A deal could be dependent on the Swans securing their Premier League status for next season.

The right-back’s exit will free up wages for the Hammers, with HITC Sport reporting earlier this year he earns £50,000 per week, netting £2.6 million over his one year at the club.
