West Ham United appear to have given up on luring Maxi Gomez to the Premier League and will reportedly target Callum Wilson instead.

West Ham United have turned their attention to Callum Wilson as they look to make a marquee striker signing and The Sun believes that they will offer £35 million for the Bournemouth star this summer.

The Hammers have been heavily linked with Celta Vigo’s Uruguay international Maxi Gomez for the last few months but it seems that they have accepted defeat, with the old-school centre-forward leaning towards a move to Valencia instead.

But Gomez is just one of a number of strikers who has caught West Ham’s eye – along with Bournemouth talisman Wilson.

Something of a late-bloomer at 27, Wilson has risen through the divisions to become an established Premier League centre-forward and three-time England international. He scored 15 goals for The Cherries in 2018/19, including a wonderful individual effort in a 3-0 win at the London Stadium in August.

And The Sun reports that the former Coventry City forward is now West Ham’s number one target with a £35 million bid on the horizon.

Wilson might be five years older than Gomez, who looks like a genuine world-class centre-forward in the making, but he has proven Premier League quality and, for £35 million, would arguably represent far less of a risk.
