The Hammers are getting desperate for January reinforcements.
West Ham United have sent a letter to five of the current Premier League top six enquiring about any possibility of loan signings in next month’s transfer window, according to a report from the Telegraph.
The Hammers are desperate to strengthen their squad in January after a very poor first half of the season.
The East London club will spend Christmas Day in 13th place after winning just five of their first 17 games, a far cry from the European hopes they harboured at the start of the campaign.
They have been misfiring terribly in attack, and have too often been porous and error-strewn at the back as pressure on Slaven Bilic grows.
Their lowly league position means they may find it hard to attract top targets in January, and a report from the Telegraph claims to have illustrated just how desperate they have become.
The paper claims that the Hammers have sent a letter to Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal enquiring as to whether the five clubs have any players they would be willing to loan out for the second half of the season.
In particular, West Ham are looking for reinforcements in attack, in central defence, and in the full-back positions, according to the report.
The consensus at the London Stadium is that summer signing Arthur Masuaku is not appropriate cover for first-choice left-back Aaron Cresswell after an indifferent spell in the team earlier this season, whilst they have just winger Michail Antonio and Sam Byram at right-back.
They are light on options at centre-back too, and their strikers have simply not performed so far this term, with Andy Carroll again dogged by injury.
The only top-six club West Ham have not reached out to are their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, with whom they have poor relations and would be unlikely to strike any deal.
