According to a report from The Sun, West Ham have sent scouts to watch Jack Marriott in recent times, while Crystal Palace are plotting a £7 million bid for the Peterborough star.

Marriott has been sensational for Posh this term. The 23-year-old is the top goalscorer in League One this season with 18 goals – five clear of his nearest rivals in the division – while his tally in all competitions stands at 24 goals.

Unsurprisingly, a number of sides in the top two divisions are keen on making a move. The Sun reports that Leeds United and Aston Villa are among the Championship sides to monitor his progress, but the pair will have to see off competition from two Premier League outfits if they want to win the race.

The Sun reports that the Irons have been keeping a keen eye on the former Ipswich Town trainee, while Palace are considering bringing forward their pursuit of Marriott due to the levels of interest from elsewhere, having initially planned to make their move in the summer.

The Sun adds that the Eagles are contemplating making a £7 million bid for the youngster, but whether that will be enough to tempt the London Road side to give the green light for a sale remains to be seen.

If £7 million is enough, his form this season certainly suggests that whichever team puts the money on the table may be on the verge of a real bargain given that he has proved to be one of the most ruthless goalscorers in the country this term.
