West Ham were reportedly keen on the Torino striker.
According to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, West Ham United made a £26 million bid for Torino striker Andrea Belotti this summer.
The Hammers spent all summer looking for a new striker, having identified that area of the team as the one needing major improvement for this campaign.
They were chasing a number of forwards as a result but failed to secure any of their top targets, such as Michy Batshuayi, Alexandre Lacazette and Carlos Bacca.
Instead, they opted to sign Italy forward Simone Zaza on loan from Serie A giants Juventus, with a view to signing him permanently should his spell prove to be a success.
So far he has not proven a hit at the London Stadium, though, going without a goal thus far this season.
And it appears that he may not have been at the top of their wishlist as Tuttosport reports they actually made a move for Belotti.
According to the newspaper, the Hammers bid £26 million for the striker but that bid was quickly rejected by Torino chairman Urban Cairo.
The forward has since gone on to bag five goals in Serie A this season and given Zaza’s struggles, the Hammers may be wishing they had gone higher with their bid.
