West Ham United are, perhaps surprisingly, interested in handing Fabio Borini the chance to return to the Premier League, according to reports.
Borini has only just joined Milan on a permanent basis, having spent the season on loan at San Siro from Sunderland. But it appears that there is a chance that he may be allowed to leave immediately.
According to Calciomercato, West Ham are keen on signing the 27-year-old this summer, but they may have to see off competition from Carlo Ancelotti if they hope to bag his signature. The report adds that the Rossoneri have no intention of letting the forward leave for a low amount this summer, having spent around £4.3 million on signing him permanently.
It is unlikely that West Ham will get Borini on the cheap, and it seems just as unlikely that the Irons supporters will be particularly happy about the links with the one-time Italy international.
Borini enjoyed a decent season in Serie A, scoring twice and contributing three assists, but his record in England is extremely underwhelming. He is yet to reach double figures for league goals in a single season during his career, and his three most impressive campaigns goals-wise came during loan spells.
His Premier League record reads 111 appearances and just 16 goals. It is hardly the kind of form that will leave the majority of West Ham supporters feeling that any cautious optimism following Pellegrini’s appointment is not considerably misplaced.
