West Ham United are rivalling Everton and a couple of other Premier League sides in the running for Federico Martinez.

According to a report from The Sun, West Ham appear to be considering rivalling Everton as well as a couple of other Premier League sides in the race to sign Federico Martinez – who plays for Uruguayan side Liverpool FC.

Martinez looks set for an extremely bright future after impressing for the Montevideo-based outfit, scoring three times and providing six assists in all competition for the mid-table side this season.

The Sun reports that a number of teams want to bring him to Europe, and Liverpool are reportedly looking for £5 million during the January transfer window before they sanction the 21-year-old’s exit.

Interestingly, The Sun claims that Liverpool – the English club – are scouting the youngster, while West Ham, Swansea City and the Toffees are all interested in pursuing a deal for Martinez – who The Sun reports, has been compared to Angel Di Maria in South America.

Whether West Ham fans will be particularly happy about the links with Martinez remains to be seen. Given their current position in the Premier League, they would certainly be forgiven for wanting much more established players right now, rather than those who have the potential to be special.

Having said that, £5 million in today’s game is really not a lot of money, so David Moyes should certainly consider instructing the board to have a serious look at Martinez as his arrival would seemingly not deplete the transfer kitty too considerably if they managed to win the race for his signature, and his talent suggests that he could prove an absolute steal in time.
