Report: West Ham remain hopeful of Samir Nasri deal

West Ham United are reportedly still hoping that they will be able to complete a deal to sign Samir Nasri.

According to a report from the Guardian, West Ham remain hopeful that they will complete a deal that will see Samir Nasri make the move to the London Stadium on a free transfer.

It emerged this week that Manuel Pellegrini was hoping to bring the Frenchman in on a free transfer as he approaches the end of his ban. Sky Sports reported that talks were held over Nasri signing an £80,000-a-week deal with the Hammers.

However, Sky also suggested that the move was in doubt due to concerns over the former Manchester City star’s fitness – which may not have been a huge surprise given that he has not played since the early weeks of 2018.

But the Guardian are now reporting that West Ham remain hopeful that they will sign Nasri despite the concerns, with Pellegrini pushing for a six-month deal that includes an option to extend those terms beyond the summer.

It is probably a gamble to pursue a deal for the 31-year-old. Nasri has not played competitively for several months and his wages would be extremely high for a player edging towards the back-end of his career.

But on a short-term deal, perhaps it is worth the Irons rolling the dice. The attacking midfielder has shown that he has a lot of quality so has the potential to prove to be a bargain – especially if he feels determined to prove a point as West Ham seemingly hesitate over a deal.
