Aston Villa have reportedly failed with a move for West Ham striker Enner Valencia.

According to The Telegraph, West Ham United have rejected a bid from Aston Villa for striker Enner Valencia, as they want a replacement before considering letting him go.

The Hammers are enduring something of a striker shortage right now, with Andy Carroll and Andre Ayew both out injured, and whilst Jonathan Calleri has arrived on loan Deportivo Maldonado, Slaven Bilic still has problems in attack.

The Telegraph report that West Ham are hoping to land either Wilfried Bony or Simone Zaza on loan before next week’s transfer deadline, and they want a new forward in before letting one go.

It’s claimed that West Ham have received an offer from Aston Villa for Enner Valencia, but have rejected their approach until they can find a potential replacement for him.

Valencia, 26, joined West Ham in a big-money move from Mexican side Pachuca two years ago, having scored three goals for Ecuador during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil

Tipped to make an impact in East London, Valencia has failed to replicate his World Cup exploits on a regular basis, and he has been linked with an exit throughout the summer having been far from a key player under Bilic last season.

With just ten goals in 64 games, Valencia hasn’t been prolific enough at West Ham, but Aston Villa – who are looking for pace in the final third – are believed to have made an offer for Valencia, though it’s unclear just how much they were looking to invest in the Ecuadorian ace.

If West Ham can land another striker – possibly Bony or Zaza – we may yet to see Valencia make a shock move to Villa Park, with Roberto Di Matteo’s men clearly ready to splash the cash in order to try and make an instant return to the Premier League.
