West Ham United have made it clear to Nottingham Forest that they will not pay more than £10 million for Matty Cash this summer, according to the Mirror (12 August, page 54).
Expect to see a few more stories like this between now and October’s transfer deadline.
With Manchester United determined not to be held to ransom by Borussia Dortmund over Jadon Sancho, there is a very real chance now that the England international will spent another season roasting full-backs in a blur of black and yellow.
Forest fans, too, will be hoping that a financial crisis of unprecedented proportions means that Cash is stuck at the City Ground for one more year.
Not that you will see the academy graduate, a competitor on the pitch and a humble character of it, complaining about the hand he has been dealt.
According to the Mirror, West Ham have told the Championship giants that they will not meet their £15 million asking price. The Hammers have no plans to pay a penny more than £10 million for the rampaging right-back.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, were reported to have offered £10 million themselves (Telegraph).
But The Mirror claims that only £6 million of that fee would be paid up front, with a further £4 million likely to come through add-ons and bonuses.
Forest will obviously be aiming to ensure they do not fall foul of Financial Fair Play restrictions but, as it stands, the two-time European champions are in a rather stable position.
They have no immediate need to Cash in on Matty. So it seems that we are about to reach an impasse – one which could do Forest’s 2021 promotion ambitions a world of good.
