West Ham are reportedly racing to sign Arsenal’s Perez.

The Daily Mirror has claimed that West Ham United hold a huge advantage in the race to sign Arsenal striker Lucas Perez over Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon this summer.

Perez, 29, has endured a difficult spell at Arsenal since his move to north London in the summer of 2016. He managed only 21 appearances in all competitions during 2016-17, scoring seven and creating five.

Despite his decent form, there was no place for him in the side under Arsene Wenger last season, so he rejoined La Liga club Deportivo La Coruna on a season-long loan where he managed nine goals in a side that were eventually relegated.

Now out of favour at Arsenal with Unai Emery’s men boasting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Danny Welbeck, Perez is considered out of favour.

That has seen both West Ham and Sporting become interested in the striker, with reports suggesting that he could be allowed to leave for as little as £5million, despite Arsenal paying £17.1million for his services two years ago.

The Mirror’s report now claims that Perez is desperate to remain in England, giving West Ham the advantage over Sporting in the race to land the Spaniard’s signature.

West Ham currently have Andy Carroll, Javier Hernandez and Toni Martinez as options up front, while Marko Arnautovic played as the club’s attacking spearhead for much of last season.
